Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (‘FAME’) is the technical name for biodiesel. It is produced from the transesterification of vegetable oils, animal fats, and recovered used cookings oil by reaction with methanol in the presence of specialized catlaysts. The reaction produces byproducts such as glycerine, acid oils and potassium salts useful in agriculture.
